This Is What Change Looks Like: Future Action’s 2025/26 Impact

As educators and school leaders across the country prepare for a new academic year, many will be thinking about the young people coming back through the gates in September.

Who is struggling to belong? Who finds it difficult to regulate? Who has disengaged from learning, movement or school altogether? And what can we do differently this year?

Those are the questions that drive our work at Future Action.

This summer, I’ve also spent some time looking backwards, putting together our 2025/26 Future Action Impact Report.

Seeing a whole year condensed into just four pages has made me stop and think.

Our mission remains simple: empowering educators to transform children’s mental wellbeing and life chances through relationships, movement and self-care toolkits.

And this is what happened when we worked alongside schools and partners to put that into practice.

A year of impact, in numbers

  • 69 schools supported in depth across 4 continents.

  • 58 conferences and CPD sessions delivered.

  • 2,700+ educators trained face to face.

  • 38% average improvement in pupil wellbeing, measured using WEMWBS.

  • Average School Wellbeing Scorecards rising from 51% to 86%.

We’re incredibly proud of those numbers.

But they only tell part of the story.

Behind every number is a young person

Impact isn’t really a percentage on a spreadsheet.

It’s a young person beginning to feel safe enough to participate.

A child discovering that movement can help them regulate.

An educator looking beyond behaviour and thinking differently about what might sit underneath it.

A young person finding somewhere they belong.

The last thing schools need in September is another initiative dropped on top of everything they are already doing.

That’s why we start by listening.

We understand your context. We build on what is already working. We co-create.

Then we help educators embed relationships, movement and wellbeing into everyday school life in ways that work for their young people.

Stronger together

One of the things I’m proudest of this year is the partnerships we’ve built.

We’ve worked alongside Virtual Schools in Wirral, Hampshire, Kent and Sandwell, regional Active Partnerships including Living Better, Be Active Beds, Active Devon, SASP, Active Surrey, GM Moving, Yorkshire Sport Foundation and Hampshire Outdoors, and the West Midlands Violence Reduction Partnership.

We’ve also had opportunities to work with national organisations including Sport England, Active Partnerships, afPE, ARC, PTI, PHASE and ACHPER.

Different communities. Different challenges.

But a shared ambition to improve the mental wellbeing and life chances of children and young people.

That is the Future Action way. Partnership rather than prescription.

50+ stories of change

We’ve always believed that the important question isn’t how many people attended a training session.

It’s:

What changed afterwards?

We now have 50+ case studies showing what schools have done with the approaches, what they’ve learned and, most importantly, what changed for their young people.

No two stories are identical. They shouldn’t be.

Schools are different. Communities are different. Young people are different.

If some of the challenges in these stories feel familiar in your setting, take a look at what other schools have tried, what worked and what they learned.

We’ve kept learning too

2025/26 has brought some important firsts for Future Action.

We piloted the RISE Wellbeing Intelligence Snapshot, giving schools another way to understand how their young people are feeling and where support could make the greatest difference.

We also implemented RISE Up in alternative provision and wraparound care settings for the first time.

Both have taught us a huge amount.

RISE Up was never designed to stand still. We want to keep listening, learning and improving alongside the educators and young people we serve.

And as schools prepare for September, we’re preparing for the next stage too.

There are some exciting new RISE Up innovations coming in 2026/27. I can’t wait to share them. 👀

Could This Be the Start of Something for Your School or Region?

As you prepare for the new academic year, perhaps some of the challenges or opportunities in this report feel familiar.

If it has sparked an idea about what could change for your young people, there are two simple ways to take the next step.

Step 1: Join our Waiting List

Whether you’re interested in a school or regional partnership, training, consultancy, speaking or bringing RISE Up to your setting, we’d love to hear from you.

Step 2: Complete the School Wellbeing Scorecard

Not ready for a conversation yet? Take three minutes to map your current wellbeing provision, recognise what’s already working and identify where you could strengthen your approach in 2026/27.

Finally, thank you

None of this happens because of Future Action alone.

It happens because educators take ideas and make them meaningful for their young people.

Because school leaders are prepared to listen and sometimes do things differently.

Because Virtual Schools, Active Partnerships and other organisations invest in the work and open doors for more young people to benefit.

And because our partners trust us enough to learn alongside them.

So, as one academic year closes and another is about to begin, a massive thank you to every educator, leader, school and organisation that has trusted us and partnered with us this year.

I know how much goes into preparing for another school year and how much you give to the young people you serve.

It is an absolute privilege to serve you, learn alongside you and be part of the change you are creating.

Here’s to what we can achieve together in 2026/27.
