Struggling With Behaviour, Regulation or Engagement? Practical Ideas to Help Young People Feel Safe Enough to Thrive
A new Headship After Hours vodcast with Paul Collin
If you're supporting young people struggling with behaviour, regulation, engagement or belonging, I think you'll get lots from this conversation.
I recently joined my great friend and former Headteacher Paul Collin for his Headship After Hours vodcast to share practical ideas and reflections around:
🤝 Building relationships before correction
🧠 Understanding what's underneath behaviour
🏃 Using movement to support regulation
💛 Creating greater psychological safety
👥 Helping young people and educators thrive
Want to jump straight into the conversation?
From CAN to RISE Up
There's plenty of lived experience behind the conversation.
Paul was my Headteacher at City Academy Norwich, where we first road-tested many of the activities and approaches that eventually became part of RISE Up.
We later partnered together at Bohunt Worthing, where Paul and his team reshaped PE around their young people, creating greater choice, psychological safety and more personally relevant experiences.
So this isn't just theory. It's two educators reflecting on what we've tried, what we've learned and what can actually make a difference in schools.
Hopefully you'll come away with a few ideas you can use with your young people straight away.
Supporting the People Who Lead Our Schools
Paul is now taking his years of experience in school leadership into Develop2Teach, supporting leaders to lead with greater clarity, confidence and purpose without losing themselves in the process.
We're delighted that Develop2Teach is also one of Future Action's Trusted Partners.
Paul has a huge amount to offer school leaders, so if you're a Headteacher or senior leader looking for space to think, reflect and lead sustainably, I'd really encourage you to explore his work.
Watch or Listen
If behaviour, regulation, engagement or belonging are priorities in your setting this year, hopefully this conversation gives you something useful to think about and, more importantly, something practical to try.
A huge thank you to Paul for the conversation, his friendship and for being part of the Future Action journey from the very beginning.
We hope you enjoy the conversation and receive value from it.
Have a fantastic week, and thank you for all you do for your young people.
